If you are struggling to create products for your internet business then public domain material could be the answer you are looking for. In this article I am going to tell how you can use public domain books to create digital products to sell on the internet.

Public domain books are usually in physical format so you will need to scan the book or at least images onto the computer you could type the book manually using word processing software which can be time consuming and costly. A site like Public Domain Resource can do all this so don’t worry about that.

Public domain books are usually at least 40 years old so the language can often be old fashioned and the images will look dated. So your first step would be to read the book and make changes to the language so it doesn’t look out of place. This is not always necessary because you could sell the book as a lost treasure that you have discovered and republished. That will obviously depend on what market you are targeting.

If the book is a how to style book you will need to do some research to see if the techniques being used in the book are still applicable today. The internet is full of information so with a little time and effort this can be easily achieved. If the information is outdated no problem just update it, that’s the beauty of public domain information you can just change it.

Next make a note of all the images and see if you can find more up to date images to replace them. You could visit some of the royalty free image sites, I am sure you will find something more suitable. If not take your own pictures all you need to do is recreate the scene and take the picture. Most people have digital cameras so this is easily done and will be fun.

Some images may be illustrations rather than photographs so this may be more of a challenge if your not an illustrator. This can be resolved by either hiring someone who can recreate the images from one of the freelance websites, or if you can replace them with photos even better.

Now that the book is looking fresh you can convert it into PDF format to sell digitally, or you could even have it made into a physical version ready to sell from sites like amazon.

I hope this gives you some ideas how you can use public domain books for profit.
